Before applying, please review the IREFs Membership Guidelines to ensure compliance for Yoga Studios. It's crucial to note that specific licensing, registration, and operational requirements will vary significantly based on the state, city, and local municipal corporation where the yoga studio is located. Studio operators must consult the relevant local governing bodies for precise documentation and procedures.

Yoga Studio Guidelines to Become an IREFs Member

1. Facility Design & Ambiance

  • Rubberized Exercise Area: A dedicated exercise area with appropriate rubberized or suitable flooring for yoga practice to ensure comfort and safety.
  • Mirrors (8X4): Well-placed mirrors to allow practitioners to check their alignment and form.
  • Handrailing: Sturdy handrailing in relevant areas for support and safety, especially for beginners or those with mobility considerations.
  • Air Conditioning: Adequate air conditioning to maintain a comfortable temperature during practice.
  • Exhaust Fan: Functional exhaust fans to ensure proper ventilation and air circulation within the studio.

2. Essential Amenities & Safety

  • Drinking Water: Potable and easily accessible drinking water must be available for all members.
  • First Aid Box: A fully equipped first aid kit must be readily available and prominently displayed.
  • Doctor on Call: Coordination or tie-up with a medical professional for on-call assistance in case of emergencies.
  • Fire Fighting Equipment's: Valid and operational fire extinguishers must be available at designated locations.
  • Changing Room: Clean, hygienic, and accessible changing rooms must be provided for members.
  • Separate Washroom: Preferably, separate washroom facilities for male and female members.
  • CCTV: CCTV cameras must be installed and in working condition to ensure safety and surveillance in common areas.
  • Geo Tagged Biometric Attendance System: Implementation of a biometric attendance system for staff and potentially members.

3. Yoga Equipment & Props

  • Yoga Mats (Min 6mm): High-quality yoga mats with a minimum thickness of 6mm, available for use or rental, or ensuring members bring their own.
  • Blankets: Clean blankets available for comfort during relaxation poses and meditation.
  • Knee Cushions: Provide knee cushions or padding for support during kneeling poses.
  • Yoga Cushions: Yoga cushions (bolsters or zafus) for seated postures and restorative practices.
  • Cut Ropes 8ft each: Appropriate length cut ropes for various yoga postures and alignment work.

4. Staff & Professional Requirements

  • SPEFL-SC Certified Trainer: All yoga instructors must hold relevant certifications from a recognized body, such as the Sports, Physical Education, Fitness and Leisure Sector Skill Council (SPEFL-SC).
  • One of two should be CPR certified trainer: At least one in every two trainers on duty must be certified in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and First Aid.
