Aerobic Center Guidelines – Indian Register for Exercise Facilities

Become an IREFs Member – Aerobic Center

Before applying, please review the IREFs Membership Guidelines to ensure compliance for Aerobic Centers. It's crucial to note that specific licensing, registration, and operational requirements will vary significantly based on the state, city, and local municipal corporation where the aerobic center is located. Center operators must consult the relevant local governing bodies for precise documentation and procedures.

Aerobic Center Guidelines to Become an IREFs Member

1. Facility Design & Ambiance

  • Rubberized Exercise Area: A dedicated exercise area with appropriate rubberized or sprung flooring suitable for high-impact aerobic activities to ensure comfort and safety.
  • Mirrors (8X4): Large mirrors (8x4 ft) strategically placed to allow participants to monitor their form and movements.
  • Handrailing: Sturdy handrailing in relevant areas, particularly near steps or elevated platforms, for support and safety.
  • Air Conditioning: Adequate air conditioning to maintain a comfortable and cool temperature during energetic aerobic sessions.
  • Exhaust Fan: Functional exhaust fans to ensure proper ventilation and air circulation, especially to remove perspiration and odors.

2. Essential Amenities & Safety

  • Drinking Water: Potable and easily accessible drinking water must be available for all members.
  • First Aid Box: A fully equipped first aid kit must be readily available and prominently displayed.
  • Doctor on Call: Coordination or tie-up with a medical professional for on-call assistance in case of emergencies.
  • Certified Fire Fighting Equipment’s: Valid and operational fire extinguishers and other certified fire fighting equipment must be available at designated locations.
  • Changing Room: Clean, hygienic, and accessible changing rooms must be provided for members.
  • Separate Washroom: Preferably, separate washroom facilities for male and female members.
  • CCTV: CCTV cameras must be installed and in working condition to ensure safety and surveillance in common areas.
  • Geo Tagged Biometric Attendance System: Implementation of a biometric attendance system for staff and potentially members.

3. Aerobic Equipment & Props

  • Stepper: Sufficient number of aerobic steppers for group fitness classes.
  • Dumbbells set: A comprehensive set of dumbbells with various weights suitable for aerobic and strength-training components.
  • Mat: Clean exercise mats for floor work, stretching, and core exercises.
  • Sand Bags: Sets of sand bags (5 Kgs, 10 Kgs, 15 Kgs) for various resistance training exercises.

4. Staff & Professional Requirements

  • Certified Trainer: All aerobic instructors must hold relevant certifications from a recognized fitness body.
  • One of two should be CPR certified trainer: At least one in every two trainers on duty must be certified in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and First Aid.
